Hacker Podcasts

Hacker Podcasts

The podcasts Hacker News keeps telling each other to listen to.

How it was built

  1. Read all of Hacker News. Every comment from 2007 to 2026 (from the public open-index/hacker-news archive) was scanned for the word “podcast” and for links to podcast apps and hosts.
  2. Name the show. Claude read each of those comments with the title of the thread it was posted in, and noted which specific show or episode it refers to and whether the commenter recommends it, cites it, merely mentions it or criticizes it.
  3. Keep what HN keeps coming back to. A show makes the list when at least three different people mentioned it, not negatively, in at least three different months.
  4. Rank by staying power. Shows are ranked by the number of separate months someone mentioned them, so being recommended year after year counts for more than one viral thread.
  5. Add the details.Artwork, feeds and episode lists come from Apple Podcasts' public directory and each show's own RSS feed. Audio plays straight from the publisher.
